LEWIS COPE

What are your first thoughts upon waking?

Every morning I wake up and think, “let’s have a great day.”

Coffee or tea to begin the day?

Flat white.

What set you on the path toward acting in the first place?

I was lucky enough to be in Billy Elliot the musical when I was a child, and from that moment I knew I wanted to act.

Do you feel more at home on the stage or in front of a camera?

The camera is safer, but nothing compares to a live audience on stage.

What are you working on at the moment?

Strictly Come Dancing 2025. The beginning of 2026 is going to be great. I’m able to be on stage and on screen.

How much of yourself do you find in the characters you play and where do you part ways?

I use my emotions and transfer them into the imagined scenario of the role I'm playing.

What intrigues you most when you first encounter a character on a script page?

How he is treated and how he treats others.

Would you call ‘Strictly’ one of your more intricate or demanding roles you’ ve played?

It has been the most intense job of my life, but it’s been the most rewarding. I feel very lucky!

Professionally, what do you think you’re doing better now than you once did?

I really understand why I am doing jobs now.

Do you have any guiding principles for success?

One step at a time.

Are you drawn to characters with a darker streak?

Human beings, we have a whole spectrum of emotions depending on circumstance. I love to play it all.

If you weren’t an actor, what might you be instead?

Most of my family do trades, I think I would be full-time in real estate.

Do you consider yourself someone who embraces risk?

Taking risks has always excited me. It’s helped me grow.

Are you more methodical, or do you follow your instincts?

I would like to think I can take both into consideration.

Have you ever felt typecast?

No, I have not.

If so, what was the last book that held your attention?

I don’t often read, I’m dyslexic—but reading a script is different for me.

How do you stay in shape, physically or otherwise?

I like to box, run, lift weights, and walk every day, but I also love food.

A quality you most admire in a man? And in a woman?

Kindness.

Who is your real-life hero?

My mom, she brought fourteen kids up and provided us all with opportunities.

Friday or Sunday?

Sunday. With my life being so busy, I love slowing the pace down and doing normal things.

Dogs or cats?

Dogs.

Wine or beer?

Wine.

In your view, what makes a perfect man?

How they treat others.

And ultimately, what makes a perfect human?

How they treat others.
